 20080124AP news

1. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says the US economy is resilient and will remain an engine of growth. Rice is attending the World Economic Forum in Switzerland. Her comments come as the Dow Jones closed with a gain of 300 points. It had been down more than 300 points during today's session.

2. The news of Heath Ledger's death has even affected President Bush. Press Secretary Dana Perino says the White House postponed an event where Bush was going to promote an ad campaign against prescription drug abuse. She says the president wanted to avoid appearing opportunistic. Police say sleeping pills were found near Ledger's body yesterday.

3. Contractors who worked on Boston's Big Dig project have agreed to pay more than $415 million in settlement cost. The money will be used to settle a lawsuit filed by the state and repair leaks and design flaws.

4. And it turns out this was not a UFO after all. Several Texas residents saw similar images earlier this month, but the 301st Fighter Wing at the Joint Reserve Base Naval Air Station says it was responsible. They say their planes were conducting night flights.
