It’s really long time for Ed no upload the new program, beacause Edward is very busy these days, he had to attend the 12th 21st Century Lenovo Cup National English Competition. Now everything is finished, he came back to EYBS2 again! There’s one of the speeches he delivered for preparing the competition. Hope that you could like it!
Ladies and gentlemen：
The titile of my speech is: Build an new indestructible moral Great Wall.
A close friend went to Beijing for a visit. When she came back she told me that she had been to the Great Wall. “All seemed perfect”, she said, “but there was only one thing…The Great Wall had been wounded.” I was curious and asked why. She said that visitors had carved their names and meaningless words on the old walls making them black and blue. I was astonished.
Our ancestors built the Great Wall to ward off enemies. And greatwall has been our weather-beaten guard for thousands of years. I believe there is a Great Wall in every Chinese heart, because it shows the Chinese qualities of perseverance, unity and courage to the world. With Chinese spirit, we Chinese people have created a splendid culture, and great wall is great example; but nowadays more and more people now think the Great Wall is nothing but a place of interest for their entertainment. Chairman Mao once said, “He who doesn't reach the Great Wall is not a truman”, so now although more and more people come to visit the wall with respect, also more and more people leave their names on the wall and defile them. This defilement is not limited to the Great Wall, but also to the other traditional Chinese places of interest.
Western ideologies are impacting furiously on traditional Chinese values. Materialism, hedonism and extreme individualism have become a part of our daily lives. Loyalty, sincerity, modesty have already become cadences of the past. A great number of youngsters are perusing high level consumption without thinking how hard it is for their parents to make money; many college students spend the whole night in the Internet cafe; Teenagers are facing the same serous question: some of teenagers are selfish and self-centered; others have become dishonest and lack of responsibility for society; some even feel ashamed to be a Chinese with black hair and yellow skin! A kind of honor seems disappeared.
It is time for us to rebuild the Great Wall！But the times are telling us to build a new indestructible moral Great Wall not from the ground but from our hearts.
But how to build this kind of a Great Wall? The English writer, Carlyle Thomas, once said, "A view of honor and shame is the spring of all virtues. " We must build the wall on the basis of honor. If we build the Great Wall on the stones of honor it can stand forever. What are these honors? Loving the motherland, serving the people, questing for science, working hard, helping each other, being honest and trustworthy, being law-abiding and living plainly and struggling hard.These eight honors are just like a professor who are telling us how to distinguish right from wrong, good from bad, holy from evil.
Great tasks cannot be completed without everyone. The young generation is the inheritor of the country and the future of China; They have the responsibility to work with all the Chinese people to build the moral Great Wall. I believe, with the great efforts of the whole nation, we will see a brand new Wall rise from the horizon and never fall down!
